Danced Based Occupational Therapy
What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy (OT) is the art and science of enabling engagement in everyday living, through occupation; of enabling people to perform the occupations that foster health and well-being; and of enabling a just and inclusive society so that all people may participate to their potential in the daily occupations of life.
(Townsend & Polatajko, 2007, p. 372).
Who are OT’s?
Occupational therapists are highly skilled healthcare professionals who have undergone extensive training. In Australia, entry-level qualifications for occupational therapists require the completion of an accredited university program, which can be either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. To practice, occupational therapists must also be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and meet ongoing professional development requirements.
Dance Based OT
TheraDance combines the therapeutic benefits of dance with the expertise of occupational therapy to support participants of all ages, whether living with lifelong disability or managing acute or chronic conditions. Our approach integrates the artistry and structure of ballet-inspired movement to build muscle strength, enhance coordination, improve balance, and promote postural alignment. These physical benefits are complemented by cognitive gains, including improved memory, planning, sequencing, and executive function, which are vital for daily living.
